焦点电影人:李玉作品展单元
在当今中国牛骥同皂的电影产业环境中,秉持风华不改的独立思考,排除诸多暗流涌动的障碍,坚守智慧的电影创作,并非易事。
就在中国电影此般现状中,李玉导演与其制片人方励组成的长期合作团队,用令人钦佩的工作方式,在其一系列的电影实践中保留了对社会现实的犀利批判和勇敢直面,这令我们看到了一股与现实平行涌动的力量,长久地做着睿智的尝试,试图摆平产业环境、艺术品质、业界口碑、电影精神等等诸多砝码。
李玉导演出身纪录片导演,作为早年中国新纪录运动中电视纪录片门派的一员,再到所谓独立电影或地下电影的实践,直到方励李玉组合开始叩响电影工业的大门,其创作脉络清晰可见,于是,本届影展引李玉为焦点电影人,回顾她的四部电影作品:《红颜》(2005),《苹果》(2007),《观音山》(2010),《二次曝光》(2012),让观众以系列方式理解李玉如何刻划女人在当代中国的命运,并以人性的眼光对待他们的奋斗、妥协、羞辱与救赎。
Filmmaker In Focus: Li Yu
It is not an easy task for the filmmakers to keep their independent thoughts intact in the current motley environment of Chinese film industry.
Up against all the odds, Director Li Yu teamed up with Producer Fang Li, with their unarguably respectful attributes, relentlessly revealing their keen observations and sharp critiques on various social phenomena. Their persistent efforts demonstrate the balance between the form of art and the interpretation of reality, with consideration of all other crucial elements, namely, commercial value, technical proficiency. Together they have formed a unique style that is truly measured up to the international standard.
The genesis of the career of Director Li Yu’s started in documentaries. She was a member of Tele-Doc School in China New Documentary Movement in her earlier days, then she has involved in independent and some underground films. Not until the later collaboration between Li and Fang has put the team on the radar of the film industry, their distinctive creativity has landmarked an outstanding direction of their own style of work.
Collectively, Li Yu’s work excels in delineating women’s fate in contemporary Chinese society. Audience will witness the way she portraits their struggles, compromises, humiliations and salvations in the name of humanity.
